MINUTES <br /> OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE <br /> EDINA CITY COUNCIL HELD AT <br /> EDINA FIRE STATION #1 <br /> OCTOBER 17,2006 <br /> 5:00 P.M. <br /> ROLLCALL Answering rollcall were Members, Hulbert, Swenson, and Mayor Pro tem Housh. <br /> Member Masica and Mayor Hovland were absent. <br /> Mayor Pro tem Housh said the purpose of the special work session was to receive information <br /> from Gary Hay, Hay Dobbs Architects about different options to remodel or rebuild Fire <br /> Station No. 1 and receive information about estimated costs of each option. <br /> Mr. Hay reviewed the reasons Fire Station #1 needed to be updated. He presented three <br /> options as follows: <br /> 1. Demolish the living quarters and office space of the station leaving the apparatus <br /> portion of the station and rebuild living quarters and office space around the <br /> existing apparatus space at a cost of approximately$4,247,000. <br /> 2. Demolish the living quarters and office space of the station and significantly <br /> modify the apparatus floor rebuilding a larger addition onto the apparatus space <br /> at a cost of approximately$5,149,000. <br /> 3. Demolish the entire station and rebuild on the same site a new station for a cost <br /> of approximately$5,474,000. <br /> The Council reviewed with Mr. Hay,Chief Scheerer and Manager Hughes the pros and cons of <br /> each option as well as preliminary designs for each. Following their review and discussion, <br /> their consensus was a total rebuild would make the most efficient use of property and tax <br /> dollars. Mr. Hughes said the staff will put together more detailed information on financing <br /> options and present them in conjunction with the Capital Improvement Program. <br /> Mayor Pro tem Housh adjourned the meeting at 6:20 p.m. <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> Debra Man n, City Clerk <br />
