He was <br />informed that if steps are on his opm property and a change in grade necessitates new <br />steps there will be no assessment, but that if steps are on street property (outside <br />property line) there will be an assessment for replacement, Mr, V-tahos also stated <br />he would prefer sidewalk next to curb line, rather than having boulevard as planned, <br />Mr, Wegner told the audience this could be done, but that where sidewalk is next to <br />curb, snow must be olowed onto the sidewalk, which makes for dissatisfaction among <br />property owners , <br />Mr, Fred Souba, 5720 Xerxes Avenue, presented a petition signed by 51 persons <br />living on Xerxes Avenue between 14.56th Street and 14.62nd Street, in strenuous objection <br />to sidewalk , together with a covering letter. <br />neighborhood meetings it has been apparent that majority does not favor, construction <br />of sidewalk. His protest was confirmed by Mr, V,F, Eastman, 6030 Xerxes, who stated <br />sidewalks will be a hazard to children, who have been taught to play in their;, back <br />yards, and also by a lady who stated it is very difficult, now, to back out onto <br />heavily-traveled Xerxes Avenue, without the added hazard of having to watch fop <br />children.playin3 on the walks, Mr, G.F. Reymolds, 6026 Xerxes, told Council there <br />will be a considerable stretch between the end of the proposed walk and Southdale, <br />and he feels that it will be of no benefit. <br />was Mr. Harry Able Johnson, who stated he owns property on both sides of Xerxes <br />Avenue that it is in the public interest to install the walks, both as a safety <br />measure for the children, and as a matter of uniformity inasmuch as there will be <br />walks on the Minneapolis side of the street. <br />He told Council that in a number of <br />The only dissenter from this group <br />Manager Hyde informed group that the <br />ft
