1/6/69 <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULARMEETING OF THE <br />EDINA VILLAGE COUNCIL HELD AT VILLAGE HALL ON <br />MONDAY, JANUARY 6, 1969 . <br />1 <br />< <br />Members answering rollcall were Councilmen Courtney, Shaw and VanValkenburg <br />who served as Mayor Pro Tem in the absense of Mayor Bredesen. <br />ARNESON PROPERTY DONATED TO VILLAGE FOR PUBLIC PARK PURPOSES. Mr. Hyde advised <br />that he was happy to announce the receipt of the quit claim deed for 13.6 acres <br />of property owned by Mr. and Mrs.'Mo&en Arneson, which is located just south <br />of West 70th Street and a few blocks east of T.H. 100. The gift is subject to <br />approval of an agreement between the Village and the Arnesons, granting them a <br />life estate in the property. The property includes the home of Mr. and Mrs. <br />Arneson at 4709 i?est 70th Street, all of the nursery trees and a workshop and <br />storage building. The Arneson house could ultimately serve as a headquarters <br />for the twenty garden clubs in Edina which have a membership of about 400 <br />women. <br />plantings €or Village property and as an open space area for aesthetic values. <br />Councilman Courtney offered the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />WHEREAS, Morten Arneson and Kafherin Arneson, his wife, have conveyed to the <br />Village of Edina for use as and for a public park, property to the Village of <br />Edina described as follows : <br />That part of the East 661.4 feet of the West 1/2 of the Northwest 1/4, <br />Section 31, Township 28, Range 24, lying North of the following described <br />line : <br />The area is proposed to be used as a tree nursery for the supply of <br />I <br />RESOLUTION <br />Beginning on the East line of the Northwest 1/4 of the Northwest 1/4 <br />of said Section 31, at a point 406.29 feet North (when measured along <br />said East 1ine):of the most Easterly corner of Lot 4, Block 3, Lake <br />Edina 2nd Addition; thence Westerly at an angle of 89' 50' with said <br />West line (as measured from South to West) to the West line of the East <br />661.4 feet of the West 1/2 of the Northwest 1/4 of said Section 31, and <br />there teminating except that part thereof lying within a parcel of land <br />described as follows : <br />Beginning at the Southwest corner of the East 661.4 feet of the <br />Northwest 114 of Northwest 1/4 of Section 31, Township 28, Range 24, <br />thence East on South line of said tract a distance.of 30 feet; thence <br />North and parallel with the West line.of said tract a distance of <br />422.51 feet; thence along a curve deflecting Northwesterly with a <br />delta angle of 46' 30' and a radius of 316.53 feet a distance of <br />139.12 feet to the intersection of the West line of said tract at a <br />point 761.1 feet South of the Northwest corner of said tract; thence <br />South on said West line to place of beginning. <br />All according to the United States Government Survey thereof, and to the <br />' recorded plat referred to, Hennepin County, Minnesota; and <br />WHEREAS, it is for the benefit of the Village and in its best interests to <br />accept said gift from Mr. and Mrs. Arneson; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Village of Edina does hereby gratefully <br />acknowledge and humbly accept the gift of land above described from Mr. and <br />Mrs. Arneson to be used as and for a public park. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the execution by the Mayor and Clerk of the Village <br />of the Agreement between the Village and Mr. and Mrs. Arneson setting forth <br />certain terms and conditions relating to the use and possession by Mr. and Mrs. <br />Arneson of the property given for public park, a copy of which is hereto <br />attached is hereby ratified and approved. <br />Motion for adoption of the resolution <br />Said ''Agreement" referred to in the above and foregoing resolution being as <br />follows : <br />AGREWNT <br />WHEREAS, Morten Arneson and Katherin Arneson, husband and wife (hereinafter <br />together called "ArnesonsifP jhaya conveyed to- the Village & Edina, &a municipal <br />corporation, (hereipafter called "Edina") a- certain k.ra& of ..land located in <br />the Village of Edina, and 1egally.described as follows: <br />-.
