I <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULARMEETING OF THE <br />MONDAY, DECENBER 21, 1970 <br />EDINA VILLAGE COUNCIL HELD AT VILLAGE HALL ON <br />Members answering tollcall were Councilmen Courtney, Johnson, Shaw, VanValken- <br />burg and Mayor Bredesen. <br />MINUTES of December 7, 1970, were approved as submitted by motion of Council- <br />man Shaw, seconded by Councilman Courtney and carried. Councilman Johnson <br />abstained from voting because he had been absent from the meeting. <br />IJCEXJTENA-I\IT ERNEST HANSEN HONORED UPON RETIREMENT. Mr. Hyde introduced Fire <br />Department Lieutenant Ernest Hansen who is retiring, whereupon Councilman <br />Johnson offered the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION <br />-WHEREAS. Lieutenant Ernest Hansen has served on the Edina Fire Department <br />since 1942 as one of the original Volunteer Firemen; and <br />k7HF,REAS, Lieutenant Hansen continued in the service of the Village of Edina <br />as a Fireman when the full-time Fire Department was started in 1955; and <br />WHEREAS, Lieutenant Hansen is now retiring from the Edina Fire Department <br />after twenty-nine years of’faithful service; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Edina Village Council express its <br />congratulations to LIEUTE&T ERNEST HANSEN upon his retirement and extend <br />its thanks to him for many years of faithful service. <br />Motion for adoption of the resolution was seconded by Councilman Courtney and <br />carried-. <br />‘ <br />SERGEANT FORBES H. MlLRTINSQN HONORED UPON RESIGNATION FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT. <br />Vpon: being:-advfsed by Mr. Hyde that Sergeant Forbes Martinson has accepted the <br />position of Chief of Police for the Village of Woodbury, Minnesota, Councilman <br />Johnson offered the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />T.IKEREAS, Sergeant Forbes H. Martinson has been employed by the Village of Edina <br />Police bepartment since January 1, 1963, serving first as a Patrolman, being <br />appointed as Sergeant, and on January 1, 1970, being appointed Administrative <br />Sergeant for the Edina Police Department; and <br />WHEREAS, during ‘his tenure with the Village .of Edina, Sergeant Martinson has <br />exhibited exemplary qualities of leadership; and <br />WIBREAS, Sergeant Martinson has now been appointed Chief of Police for the <br />Village of Woodbury, Minnesota; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Village Council that heartiest <br />congratulations and very best wishes be hereby extended to SERGEANT FORBES H, <br />MARTINSON as he commences his new position with its accompanying greater <br />responsibilities. <br />Motion for adoption of the resolution was seconded’by Councilman Shaw and car- <br />ried. <br />RESOLUTION <br />J. WESTON BRASK AND WILLIAM NALSH PROMOTIONS ANNOUNCED. Council extended <br />congratulations to J. Weston Brask upon his promotion’from Uniform Sergeant <br />to Administrative Sergeant and to William Nalsh upon his promotion from the <br />Uniform Division of the Police Department to Uniform Sergeant. <br />CHARLES HIGGINS RECOGNIZED FOR FIRE PHOTOGRAPHY. <br />award to Mr. Charles Higgins from the ‘Wnnesota Fire Chief” for pictures which <br />he took at a fire on March 5, 1970, which pictures have been distributed around <br />the country to help fire fighers around the United States. <br />Council were expressed to Mr..Higgins for his dramatic pictures: <br />ORDINANCE 811-2 (No. 261-215 before 1970 Codification) GRANTED SECOND READING. <br />Mr. IJest presented Ordinance 811-2 (No. 261-215 before 1970 Codification) for <br />Second Reading, noting that it had been continued from the meeting of December <br />7, 1970, because only three Councilmen were’present.
