MINUTES OF THE REGULARMEETING OF THE <br />EDINA VILLAGE COUNCIL HELD AT VILLAGE HALL ON <br />MONDAY,-JUNE 21, 1971 <br />'I I' Ij <br />I' <br />Members answering rollcall were Councilmen Courtney, Johnson, Shaw, VanValken- <br />burgtand Mayor Bredesen. <br />RESOLUTION OF AF'PRECiATION ADOPTED FOR FRANK J. TUPA. <br />tlrie audience rose <br />Councilman Courtney, then offered the following resolution which was read by <br />Mr. Hyde and moved' its adoption as follows: <br />t. <br />Council and members of <br />in a moment of silence in memory of Mr., Frank 4. Tupa. <br />RESOLUTION <br />WHEREAS, 'the life of Frank J. Tupa, a long-time Edina resident and public .- <br />servant; ended suddenly on June 12, 1971,-at the age of 73; and <br />WHEREAS, during his nearly forty years as a citizen of Edina, Frank J. Tupa <br />did serve his fellow cirizens well and productively as a member of the Edina <br />School Board from 1933 to 1939, as a member of the Edina Village Council from <br />1955 thru 1966 and as a member of the Board of Appeals and Adjustments-from <br />1967 until his untimely passing; and <br />WHEREAS, Frank J. Tupa was instrumental in initiating the acquisition by the <br />Village of the Wud Lake? area, and in recent yekrs assisted the Village in <br />purchasing several properties for park purposes; and <br />WHEREAS, Frank J. Tupa aided immeasurably in Edina's development by his active <br />participation in many community organizations such as the Rotary Club of which <br />he was a charter member, the Edina Historical Society, the Edina Good Govern- <br />ment Association and the Edina Civic and Improvement Association; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Village Council of the Village of Edina <br />that, on behalf of all of the citizens of Edina, deepest sympathy be expressed <br />to the family of Frank J. Tupa, and that sincere app-reciation of the community- <br />be recorded for the many accomplishments of <br />Sji his untiring efforts; and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESULVED by the Village Council of the Village of Edina that the <br />Edina Historical Park at Eden Avenue and Normandale Road be known as the Frank <br />Tupa Historical Park; and <br />BE IT RESOLVED FURTHER that appropriate copies of this resolutioir be transmitted <br />to Mrs. Tupa, Frank J. Tupa, Jr., and Mrs. Phyllis Tupa Daly. <br />Motion for adoption of the resolution was seconded by Councilman Shaw and <br />carried. <br />FRANK J. TUPA <br />LEO J. FICK RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION ADOPTED. Councilman Courtney offered <br />the following resolution and moved its adoption: . <br />RE SOLUTION <br />WHEREAS, the career of Leo J. Fick with Edina School District 273 started as <br />a teacher of science and mathematics at the junior high school level in the <br />Wooddale School in 1942; and <br />WHEREAS, because of his dedication to duty, understanding of the educational <br />processes and administrative ability, Leo J. Fick was appointed Director of <br />Guidance, Assistant Principal and then Principal of the Eding High School <br />until 1958, at which time.he was appointed Director of Secondary Education; <br />and <br />laz-IElirs~..S, Leo J. Fick served as Acting Superintendent of Schools from October, <br />1961, to July, 1962, at which time he resumed his position as Director of <br />.Secondary Education, which post he held until his untimely death on June 6, <br />1971, at the age of 58; and <br />BHEREAS, Leo J. Ficlc has served as Secretary for the Lake Conference Associa- <br />tion and as a past President of the Edina Lyons Club, contributing generously <br />of his time and efforts; and <br />WEREAS, Leo J. Fick has been held in high esteem by the pupils and faculty <br />of Edina School District 273, as well as by the community as a whole; <br />NOI?, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Village Council of the Village of Edina <br />that, on behalf of all of the citizens of Edina, deepest sympathy be expressed <br />to'the family of Leo J. Fick and that sincere appreciation of the community <br />be spread upon the pages of the Minutes Book of the Village of Edina for the <br />many accomplishments of <br />by his untiring efforts; and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that appropriate copies of this resolution be transmitted <br />to Mrs. Fick, Gretchen Fick Steffenson and Ki.chael R.
