1 <br />I <br />MINUTES OF THE RZGULAR MEETING OF THE <br />EDINA VILLAGE COUNCIL HELD AT VILLAGE HALL ON <br />MONDAY, JANUARY 3, 1972 <br />Melfibers answering rollcall were Councilmen Courtney, Johnson, Shaw, Van Valken- <br />burg and Mayor Bredesen. <br />OATH OF OFFICE was administered by the Clerk to Mayor Bredesen and to Councilman <br />Johnson. <br />MAYOR PRO TEM APPOINTED. Motion of Councilman Johnson was seconded by Council- <br />man Courtney and carried appointing Councilman Van Valkenburg Mayor Pro Tem for <br />the year 1972. <br />' <br />DR. REUBEN F. ERICKSON RESOLUTION OF CONDOLENCE ADOPTED. Councilman Van Vallcen- <br />burg offered the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />WHEREAS, on December 31, 1971, death brought to a close the life of Dr. Reuben <br />F. Ericlcson .at the age of 75; and <br />WHEREAS, Dr. Erickson served as Mayor of the Village of Edina from January 1, <br />1950, until his retirement on October 10, 1956, during which time his leader- <br />ship was of great value in providing a sound basis for the emerging rapid <br />growth of Edina; and <br />TJWREAS, Dr. Ericlcson served mankind in the field of medicine, commencing pri- <br />vate practice in Minneapolis in 1927, serving as President of the Hennepin <br />County Nedical Society, the Minnesota Academy of General Practice and the Minnesota <br />Geriatric Society and serving also with the 26th General Hospital Unit in the <br />United States Army in World War I1 and as an associate editor of Modern <br />Medicine; and <br />TE3EREAS, Dr. Erickson was a State Legislator from the 36th District in 1941, <br />and has been, over many years, well-known in Republican Party circles; <br />NOV, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Edina Village Council, in behalf of <br />all the citizenry of Edina, express deepest sympathy to the family of Dr. <br />ReubenAF. Erickson and that sincere appreciation of the community be recorded <br />for the many accomplishments of DR. REUBEN F. ERICKSON by his untiring efforts; <br />and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be spread upon the minutes <br />of the Edina Village Council and that appropriate copies of this resolution be <br />presented to Mrs. Erickson, to Plrs. Patricia Erickson Gerko and to Dr. Hartley <br />J; Erickson. <br />Motion for adoption of the resolution was seconded by Councilman Johnson and <br />carried. <br />RESOLUTION OF CONDOLENCE <br />. <br />KCNUTES OF..DECEMBER 6 AND .15, 1971, approved as presented by motion of Council- <br />man Johnson, seconded by Councilman Sbaw and carried. <br />ORDINANCE NO. 811-A21 GWTED FIRST READING. <br />presented at Council Meeting of December 20, 1971; and First Reading of <br />Ordinance No. 811-A21 having been continued so that the ordinance could be <br />revised, Village Attorney Erickson presented the ordinance as revised to pro- <br />vide that the costs in connection with rezoning to Planned Residential Districts <br />would be paid by the developer if the Planning Conimission requires additional <br />information of a technical nature not normally supplied by or readily avail- <br />able to the staff of the Village, or of alegal nature which can best be <br />supplied, in the opinion of the Planning Commission, by consultants retained <br />by the Village.
