<br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
<br />EDINA CITY COUNCIL HELD AT CITY HALL
<br />FEBRUAXY 6, 1978
<br />Answering rollcall were members Courtney, Richards, Schmidt, Shaw and Mayor Van
<br />MINUTES of December 19, 1977, January 9 and 16, 1978, were approved as submitted
<br />by motion of Cokcilman Courtney, seconded by Councilwoman Schmidt.
<br />Ayes: Courtney, Richards, Schmidt, Shaw, Van Valkenburg
<br />Nays: None
<br />Mot ion carried.
<br />BRIAN MEEKER CONGRATULATED AS GYMNAST.
<br />resolution and moved its adoption:
<br />WHEREAS, following a season of intense competition, the Edina East High School
<br />Gymnastic Team has won the opportunity to participate in various gymnastic
<br />events; and
<br />WHEREAS, in these various post season meets, the Edina East High School Gymnastic
<br />Team has won fourth place in the State Gymnastic Meet, first place in the Region
<br />IV Meet, and second place in the Lake Conference League; and
<br />WHEREAS, the Edina East High School Gymnastic Team scored the highest number of
<br />points ever to be made in the history of Region IV Meets; and
<br />WHEREAS, Brian Meeker, Letterman and Captain of the Edina East High School Team
<br />individually won All Conference, first place in the State for All Around Gymnast,
<br />Vaulting and Free Exercise, second place in the State on the Parallel Bars,
<br />Fourth place in the State on the High Bar and on the Rings; and
<br />WHEREAS, Brian Meeker further demonstrated his profound athletic prowess by
<br />winning first place in the Region for All Around Gymnast, Free Exercise, Vault-
<br />ing, Rings, Parallel Bars and the High Bar and second place in the Region on the
<br />Side Horse; and
<br />WHEREAS, Brian Meeker was named High School All American Gymnast, an honor which
<br />comes to few contestants, and in so doing, lead his team mates to fourth place
<br />in the State Gymnastic Meet;
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council do hereby offer .
<br />their sincere congratulations to BRIAN MEEKER for his outstanding accomplishments
<br />as a gymnast and representative of the City of Edina in such a commendable
<br />mously carried.

<br />RESOLUTION OF CONGRATULATIONS

<br />EDINA QUILT APPRECIATION EXPRESSED BY COUNCIL.
<br />a quilt which has been displayed in the Council Chambers, whereupon Councilwoman
<br />Council's attention was called to
<br />Schmidt offered the following resolution and moved its adoption:
<br />RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION
<br />WHEREAS, under the leadership of Nancy Bascom, a quilt depicting the history of
<br />the City of Edina has been made and donated to the Edina Historical Society; and
<br />WHEWAS, the Edina Historical Society has generously loaned the quilt to the
<br />City of Edina so that it could be displayed in a prominent place in the Edina
<br />City Hall for many residents to see; and
<br />WHEREAS, Margaret Swanson, Claire Oie, Paulfne Maurer, Betty Paugh, Gretchen
<br />Greene, Nancy Aksoy, Francese Whftney, Janet Kjome, Elaine Teeter, Grace Eckmann,
<br />and Patricia Cox artistically designed this quilt with squares picturing the
<br />Grimes House, the Edina Mill, Old Cahill School and the Grange Hall;
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Edina City Council does hereby recognize
<br />the outstanding efforts of these ladies who made the quilt and does offer con-
<br />gratulations for the warkmanship which they performed; and
<br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Edina City Council expresses its sincere appreci-
<br />ation to,the Edina Historical Society for this opportunity to display this Edha
<br />Quilt in the Council Chambers of the Edina City Hall where it will receive the
<br />recognition it so truly deserves.

<br />EDINA LEAGUE OF WO~N VOTERS RECOGNIZED.

<br />WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters will celebrate its 58th anniversary on Febru-
<br />ary 14, 1978; and
<br />WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters is an organization dedicated in its efforts
<br />to educate the voting public and to encourage citizens to exercise their mandate
<br />to vote at all elections; and
<br />WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters of Edina has, over the years, assisted fn
<br />registering voters at Southdale and City Hall, and has consequently been
