Van Valkenburg. <br />Mrs. Helen IlcClelland, representing the Community Development and Planning Commis- <br />sion, was present as was Mr. Homer Rinney of the Human Relations Commission and Mr. <br />A. Charles Bredesen, 111, of the H.R.A. <br />I MINUTES of the meeting of August 21, 1978, were approved as presented by motion of <br />Councilwoman Schmidt, seconded by Councilman Richards. <br />Ayes: Courtney, Richards, Schmidt, Van Valkenburg <br />Nays: None <br />Motion carried. <br />UNITED ??ATIONS WEEK PROCLAMATION PRESENTED. <br />the following United Nations Week Proclamation was seconded by Councilwoman Schmidt <br />and carried. <br />PRO CLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, since its founding in 1945, the United Nations has provided a continuing <br />forum for discussion and efforts to resolve international issues that endanger the <br />peace of the world; and <br />WHESEAS, the United Nations has also been a leader in international humanitarian <br />activities; and <br />FdHEREAS, the United States has continued its active involvement in the United Nations <br />for the past thirty-three years in order to take advantage of every possible oppor- <br />tunity to achieve international peace, human rights ard human development; and <br />wHER?ZAS, it is desirable for Minnesotans to be accurately informed about the broad <br />range of activities of the United Nations; and <br />WHEREAS, znnually since the founding of the United Nations, one day and one week have <br />been set aside as United Nation’.s Day and United Nation’s Week throughout the Nation; <br />and <br />WEEREAS, the day and week of October 22, 1978, have been so designated; <br />NOW, TI-IEREFORE, I, JAMES VAN VALKENBURG, Mayor or the City of Edina, do hereby <br />declare Sunday, October 22, 1978, to be UNITED NATIONS DAY and the week of October <br />2-2, 1978, to be UNITED NATIONS WEEK in Edina, Minnesota, in recognition of the <br />significance of the United Nations, and to call upon the citizens of the City of <br />Edina, to give careful and critical thought to the present and future role of the <br />Unit-ed Hat ions. <br />mRR COMPANIES ZONING REQUEST CONTINUED.
