62 <br />MINUTES <br />OF THE REGlJLAR MEETING OF THE <br />EDINA CITY COUNCIL HELD AT CITY HALL <br />MAY 5, 1980 r <br />c <br />Akswering' rollcall were members Courcney , Richards and Mayor Van Valkenburg. <br />Councilwoman Schmidt entered the meeting later as indicated in the Minutes. <br />sent also were Elmes. Helen NcClelland of the Comunity Development aGd Planning <br />Commission and Leslie-Turner and Betty Carver of the Human Relations Commission. <br />MINUTES of April 21, 1980, were approved as submitted by motion of Councilman <br />Richards , seconded by Councilman Courtney. <br />EDINA POLICE RESERVE RECOGNIZED. -Mayor Van Valkenburg read the following resolu- <br />tion, copies of which were presented to members of the Edina Police Reserve who <br />were present: <br />Pre- <br />- <br />RESOLUTION OF CONGRATULATIONS <br />WHEREAS, the Edina Police Reserves are an integral service with the Edina Police <br />Department; and <br />TvBEREAS, the Edina Police Reserves provided1,257 hours of volunteer service to the. <br />residents of the City of Edina during 1979; and <br />WdEREAS, the Edina Police Reserves worked with the following activities during the <br />year: <br />March of Dimes <br />Hockey Games <br />Basketball Games Hopkins Raspberry Festival <br />Easter Egg Hunt Football Games <br />Ride for Stride <br />School Patrol Picnic <br />and many other duties; and< <br />WHEREAS, the Edina Police Reserves save the residents of Edina countless dollars <br />while providing support to the Edina Police Department; and <br />Tv~EREAS, the Edina Police Reserves maintain the highest professional attitudes, <br />standards of performance and ethics; <br />NOW; THEXEFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Edina, Minnesota, <br />that (Name of Officer) <br />a mem5er of the Edina Police Reserves, having volunteered <br />in the serkce of the City of Edina and the Edina Police Department, be commended <br />and heartily thanked for,excellent service to Edina. <br />'(Recognized were Michael Bodeen, 166 hours; Ron Craig, 215 hours, Loren Hallon- <br />quist, 199.3:'4 hours; .Tens Hovelsrud, 58 1/2 hours; Scott Johnson, 59 1/4 hours; <br />Tim-Kane, 91 3/4 hours; Sandi Quint, 103 1/4 hours; Peter Semenkewitz, 61 hours; <br />Narc Thielman, 163 hours; Kay Torbenson, 164 1/2 hours.) <br />Motion for adoption of the r.esoluti6n which was offered by Councilman Richards was <br />-then seconded by Councilman Courtney and unanimously carried. <br />Jaycee Run for Fun <br />4th of July Fireworks <br />Special Halloween Patrol <br />(Smber of Hours) - ._ <br />-:NATIONAL POLICE WEEK PROCLAMATION DE'CLARED. The Mayor read the following Pro- <br />clamation : <br />T?BEl?33AS, the Congress of the United States of America has designated the week of <br />Nay 15th to be dedicated as "National Police'Week" and May 15th of each year to <br />be "Police Memorial Day"; and <br />IJHEREAS, the Law Enforcement Officers are our guardians of life and property, <br />defenders of the individual right to be free men, warriors in the war against <br />crime, and dedicated to the preservation of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Edina desires to honor the valor, service and dedication of <br />its own police officers; <br />NO$J, THEREFORE, I, James Van Valkenburg, Mayor of the City of Edina, do proclaim <br />the week of Hay 11th to May 17th to be <br />and do call upon'all citizens of* this community to especially honor and show our . <br />appreciation for the police officers of this City by deed, remark and attitude and <br />, . do call upon all our citizens to make every effort to express their thanks ta our <br />police officers who make i't possible for us to leave our homes and families in <br />safety each day and to return to. our homes knowing that they are protected by <br />police officers who are willing to sacrifice their lives, if necessary, to guard <br />., r. our loved ones, property and government against all who would violate the law. <br />LOTS 2 AND 3, BLOCK 1, CAROLANE ADDITION DIVISION APPROVED.
