267 <br />MINUTES <br />OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE <br />EDINA CITY COUNCIL HELD AT CITY HALL <br />SEPTEMBER 16, 1985 <br />Answering rollcall were Members Bredesen, Kelly, Richards, Turner and Mayor <br />Courtney. <br />RESOLUTION OF WELCOME ADOPTED. <br />and Member Turner moved its adoption: <br />Mayor Courtney introduced the foilowing resolution, <br />RESOLUTION OF WELCOME <br />TO THE SUZUKI CHILDREN OF JAPAN I WHEREAS, the City of Edina is proud to be the host City for two of the concert <br />rl 0 <br />appearances of the Suzuki Children from Japan and special events occuring all <br />day on Saturday, October 5th; and <br />WHEREAS, we encourage the Suzuki Group and their escorts to sample the many <br />cultural offerings of our City and area during their visit; and <br />WHEREAS, we extend our appreciation to the Studio Grand for making it possible <br />for the Suzuki Children to appear in our City, and for enabling our youth to <br />enhance their musical appreciation and knowledge; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Edina and its Chamber of Commerce fully support and foster <br />the exchange of artistic talents throughout the world. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, that the Mayor, the Council <br />and the citizens of Edina welcome the Suzuki Children from Japan to the United <br />States, and with the Chamber of Commerce, we extend the City's hospitality, <br />congeniality, and warm wishes for a pleasant visit and every success in their <br />concert appearances. <br />Motion for adoption of the resolution was seconded by Member Kelly. <br />Rollcall : <br />Ayes: Bredesen, Kelly, Richards, Turner, Courtney <br />Resolution adopted. <br />PUBLIC HEARINGS CONDUCTED ON NUMEROUS ASSESSMENTS. BA-137A <br />Location: Hansen Road from Vernon Avenue to West 60th Street <br />Mr. Rosland presented Analysis of Assessment for Street Improvement No. BA-1378 <br />showing total construction cost of $114,437.20 proposed to be assessed against <br />5,122.26 assessable feet (Single Family) and 24 multi units, at $20.00 per <br />assessable foot (Single Family) and $574.00 per assessable multi unit, against <br />estimated assessment of $20.00 per assessable foot (Single Family) and $574.00 <br />per assessable multi unit. <br />objection to the proposed special assessment of $6,896.20 on his property. His <br />objections were: 1) to the amount of the assessment based on the irregular size <br />and shape of the lot; 2) lack of reimbursement or replacement of numerous trees <br />removed without his consent; 3) lack of replacement of boulevard trees; and <br />4) loss of parking on Hansen Road 24 hours a day.
