I90 MINUTES <br />OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE <br />EDINA CITY COUNCIL HELD AT CITY HALL <br />JULY 11, 1988 <br />Answering rollcall were Members Kelly, Richards, Smith, Turner and Mayor Courtney. <br />CENTENNIAL UPDATE GIVEN. Kay Bach, Co-Chair of the 1988 Centennial, presented an <br />update on Centennial activities. She reported that the events for the month June <br />revolved around an Arts, Flowers and Fashions Festival, but also included <br />Edinanite at the Twins on June 21 and the Centennial Run on June 26. The month of <br />July began with the All-Class Edina High School Reunion and All-Class Band Reunion <br />events and the city-wide Neighborhood Block Parties. <br />of July 4th began with the 10 a.m. Parade on 50th Street and continued with <br />afternoon events at Lake Cornelia Park, the John Philip Sousa Memorial Band and a <br />spectacular fireworks display at dusk. She showed photographs taken during the <br />June and July events and reported that the turnouts for the High School Reunion, <br />(estimated 2,500 to 3,000 alumni present) the All-Class Band Reunion and the <br />Parade were fantastic. The main event for August will be the Golf Tournament on <br />August 8. <br />The Centennial Celebration I <br />RESOLUTION OF CONDOLENCE ADOPTED FOR CLINTON J. CHRISTOPHER. <br />the following resolution of condolence which was unanimously adopted: <br />RESOLUTION OF CONDOLENCE <br />WHEREAS, Clinton J. Christopher was a long time resident of the City of Edina; and <br />WHEREAS, he was held in high esteem by all who knew him for his many civic <br />interests and his efforts in serving his community; and <br />WHEREAS, in 1939 he was one of the founders of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in <br />Edina; and <br />WHEREAS, he served as President of the Edina Country Club in 1953; and <br />WHEREAS, he was appointed by Governor Luther Youngdahl as advisory commissioner of <br />the Minnesota Department of Business Development and held that position under four <br />governors ; and <br />WHEREAS, he was elected President of the Edina Village Council and served during <br />the post World War I1 years of 1946 through 1947 when Edina began its building <br />boom; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Edina City Council does hereby mourn the <br />passing of <br />and extends its condolences to his son and daughters, to his grandchildren and <br />great grandchildren. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be entered into the Minutes Book of <br />the Edina City Council and that a copy be presented to his family. <br />ADOPTED this 11th day of July, 1988. <br />Mayor Courtney read <br />CLINTON J. CHRISTOPHER I <br />CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS ADOPTED. <br />Member Kelly to approve and adopt the consent agenda items as presented. <br />Motion was made by Member Smith and seconded by <br />Rollcall : <br />Ayes: Kelly, Richards, Smith, Turner, Courtney <br />Motion carried. <br />*MINUTES OF THE REGULAR JUNE 20 AND SPECIAL MEETINGS OF MAY 16 AND JUNE 6. 1988 <br />APPROVED. <br />approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting and Special Meetings of Hay 16 and June <br />6, 1988. <br />Motion was made by Member Smith and seconded by Member Turner to <br />Motion carried on rollcall vote, five ayes. <br />*LOT DIVISION APPROVED FOR LOTS 15. 16 AND 17 BLOCK 2. BROOKSIDE HEIGHTS (5037 <br />WILLIAM AVENUE) - HEARING DATE SET - 8/1/88 Motion was made by Member Smith and <br />seconded by Member Turner to adopt the folloving rssolution: <br />WHEREAS, the folloving described tracts of land constitute various separate <br />parcels : <br />WEBEAS, the owners of the above tracts of land desire to subdivide said tracts <br />into the following described new and separate parcels (herein called "Parcels"): <br />RESOLUTION <br />Lots 15, 16 and 17, Block 2, BROOKSIDE HEIGHTS; and <br />Lot 17 and the North one half of Lot 16, Block 2, "BROOKSIDE HEIGHTS", <br />including that portion of the vest one half of the vacated alley adjoining <br />vhich lies between the easterly extension of the north line of said Lot 17 <br />and the south line of the North one half of said Lot 16; <br />and <br />Lot 15 and the South one half of Lot 16, Block 2, "BROOKSIDE HEIGHTS". <br />including that portion of the west one half of the vacated alley adjoining <br />vhich lies between the easterly ertension of the south line of said Lot 15 <br />and the north line of the south one half of said Lot 16. <br />FJHEREBS, it has been determined that compliance vith the Subdivision and Zoning <br />Regulations of the City of Edina will create an unnecessary hardship and said <br />Parcels as separate tracts of land do not interfere vith the purposes of the <br />Subdivision and Zoning Regulations as contained in the City of Ed- Ordinance <br />Nos. 801 and 825;
