157 <br />l4INUTES <br />OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE <br />EDINA CITY COUNCIL HELD AT CITY €?AIL <br />APRIL 17, 1989 <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Richards at 7:OO p.m. <br />ROUCAIL Answering rollcall were Members Paulus, Rice, Smith and Richards. <br />Member Kelly entered the meeting at 7:05 p.m. <br />DISABILITY AWARENESS WEEK PROCLAIMED <br />Member Paulus for adoption of the following resolution: <br />WHEREAS, a significant effort is being made Statewide to eliminate barriers for <br />disabled persons in the areas of employment, housing, transportation, education, <br />and public accommodations; and <br />WHEREAS, many individuals with disabilities are living independently in our <br />community and participating in community activities such as community education <br />and recreation; and <br />WHEREAS, both city officials and school administrators desire public awareness as <br />to the issues and concerns facing disabled persons; and <br />WHEREAS, residents of our community need to become more aware, not only of the <br />limitations disabled persons have, but also of their talents and abilities; and <br />WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of Minnesota, and each of the South Hennepin- <br />communities, are proclaiming Disability Awareness Week in recognition of the <br />contributions disabled individuals make within the State and the communities in <br />which they live; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, Frederick S. Richards, Mayor of the City of Edina do hereby <br />proclaim the week of April 24-30, 1989 as <br />in Edina. Further, I urge all residents of our City to be more open and attentive <br />to the needs and abilities of persons with disabilities. <br />Motion was adopted unanimously. <br />the Edina Advisory Committee and introduced members who were present. She noted <br />that this is the first anniversary of the Edina Adaptive Recreation Program which <br />gives children with disabilities the chance to participate with other children.. <br />She said that the Program is of benefit to the whole community. <br />Motion of Member Smith was seconded by <br />PROCLAMATION - DISABILITY AWARENESS WEEK <br />DISABILITY AWARENESS WEEK <br />Mary Jean Coates expressed the appreciation of <br />CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS ADOPTED <br />Member Smith to approve and adopt the consent agenda items as presented, with the <br />exception of the removal of items IV.C and V.D. <br />Rollcall : <br />Ayes: Kelly, Paulus, Rice, Smith, Richards <br />Motion carried. <br />Motion was made by Member Paulus and was seconded by <br />*MINUTES OF "HE REGULAR MEETINGS OF JANUARY 17.
