HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015-05-19 City Council Work Session MINUTES OF THE WORK SESSION OF THE EDINA CITY COUNCIL HELD AT CITY HALL MAY 19, 2015 5:35 P.M. Mayor Hovland reconvened the City Council in open session at 5:35 p.m. ROLL CALL Answering roll call were: Members Brindle, Staunton, Stewart, Swenson and Mayor Hovland. Edina City Staff attending the meeting: Michael Frey, Art Center General Manager; Ann Kattreh, Park Director; Karen Kurt, Assistant City Manager; Chad Millner, Engineering Director; Scott Neal, City Manager; Bill Neuendorf, Economic Development Manager; Eric Roggeman, Finance Director; Cary Teague, Community Development Director; Jane Timm, Deputy City Clerk. Also attending were Dave Anderson and Dean Williamson, Frauenshuh Group; Dennis Reynolds, Reynolds Urban Design; Mark Ruff, Ehlers; George Sutton, Sutton Associates; and Michael DiBlasi, Schuler Shook Designers. GRANDVIEW DEVELOPMENT Economic Development Manager, Bill Neuendorf stated the focus of the work session was to update the Council on the potential development scenarios of the former Public Works site. It was noted that the 64 page packet distributed to members was an updated copy that was also on the website. Mr. Neuendorf summarized the exploration process, the community preferred land uses, and the four potential scenarios for the site. Mr. Anderson and Mr. Reynolds summarized the site layouts and economic impact of each of the four scenarios. The Council and staff discussed the scenarios and economic impact of each scenario. Mr. Neuendorf asked for direction from the Council. The Council shared their preferences and suggestions then directed staff to refine scenarios number two and number three which included combination of a new civic facility with adjacent residential units. Mayor Hovland thanked Mr. Neuendorf for his hard work. ADJOURNMENT Mayor Hovland adjourned the meeting at 7:02 p.m. Respectfully submitted, a e M.
