OF THE WORK SESSION OF THE
EDINA CITY COUNCIL
HELD AT CITY HALL
DECEMBER 16, 2008
5:00 P.M.
Mayor Hovland called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. in the Community Room of City
Hall. Answering rollcall were: Members Bennett, Housh, Masica, Swenson and Mayor
Hovland. Staff present included: Gordon Hughes, City Manager; Heather Worthington,
Assistant City Manager; John Wallin, Finance Director; Eric Roggeman, Assistant finance
Director; John Keprios, Park & Recreation Director; Ed MacHolda, Assistant Park &
Recreation Director; Jennifer Bennerotte, Communications & Marketing Director; Tom
Shirley, Centennial Lakes Park Manager; John Valliere, Braemar Golf Course General
Manager; Todd Anderson, Braemar Golf Course Assistant Manager, Larry Thayer,
Braemar Arena Manager; Diana Hedges, Art Center Director; Susie Miller, Edinborough
Park Assistant Manager; and Debra Mangen, City Clerk.
Mayor Hovland stated the purpose of the meeting was to continue the review of the City of
Edina's Capital Improvement Plan for its enterprise facilities. Manager Hughes explained
the facilities managers were in attendance to review their proposed Capital Improvement
and Business Plans. He stated he believed the Council could finish most of the enterprise
facilities leaving the Edina Liquor Stores and possibly the Utility Rate Study for review on
January 6, 2009.
The Council reviewed the Capital Improvement and Business Plans for: Braemar Arena,
Edina Art Center, Edina Aquatic Center Braemar Golf Course and Centennial Lakes Park.
During the review each facility manager answered Council questions regarding proposed
improvements, facility operations, and upcoming marketing of their facility. It was noted
that Edinborough Park would also be reviewed at the January 6, 2009, Work Session.
There being no further business, Mayor Hovland adjourned the meeting at 6:55 p.m.
