Subject: Edina Transportation Commission Annual Work Session with Council
Action Requested:
Provide input or guidance on commission activities.
Information / Background:
The Edina Transportation Commission (ETC) proposes to discuss the following items with Council at its
Annual City Council Work Session:
A. Review progress of 2015 Work Plan
B. Discuss standards for when and how the ETC advises on City business (e.g. Parks Strategic Plan)
C. Outreach and education around multi -modal issues
D. Greater Southdale Area

Progress Report: The ETC reviewed the survey and questionnaire in January and provided feedback. This included choosing to
focus on the pre -project questionnaire and how the data would be used. Members of the ETC met with staff and provided
recommendations. Based on this, in April and May staff prepared a "multimodal traffic survey" that would be sent out two years
or to roadwav reconstruction aroiects.

Progress Report: At its May meeting, the ETC held its first discussion regarding this item. Staff prepared summary information for
commissioners regarding the future LRT construction and nearby station locations. The ETC plans to revisit this topic in the
coming months, including a presentation by Metro Transit staff to share information about the LRT line and potential changes to
bus routes through Edina.
Ongoing Responsibili
Living Streets Policy/Plan:
Active Routes to School Comprehensive Plan — continue to look at opportunities for funding.
Sidewalk Plan — prioritize sidewalk (PACS Fund) projects annually
Way -finding Signage for bikeways and pedestrians
Review/revise City Code for Plan implementation
Meet with Police Department and Public Works annually to discuss shared interests.
Progress Report: Both scheduled for August meeting
Education and outreach activities around pedestrian, bicyclist and motorist safety
Progress Report: "Street Smarts" campaign is active. At its May meeting the ETC directed the Bike Edina Working Group to focus
on outreach and education.
Review transportation projects in the proposed Capital Improvement Program, including annual neighborhood street reconstruction projects
Review monthly traffic safety committee reports
Review Public Works street mill and overlays and seal coat projects as to opportunities for remarking for bicycle facilities
Valley View Rd between Gleason Rd and Antrim Rd — work with School District to address traffic issues.
Progress Report: Staff has shared with the ETC that the City is currently working with School District staff on a joint traffic study of
the area.
Review transportation items in the Comprehensive Plan and make recommendations for study/implementation
