FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Winter Warm-Up Weekend Set For Feb. 7-8
Edina, Minn., Jan. 21, 2015 – The Edina Parks & Recreation Department aims to get families, friends and
neighbors out of their houses on Feb. 7 and 8. There will be a variety of activities for people of all ages to take
part in throughout the community that weekend as part of “Winter Warm-Up Weekend.”
Parks & Recreation Department Recreation Supervisor Kristin Aarsvold is excited for people to see all that
Edina has to offer. “The Winter Warm-Up Weekend was created to showcase places and parks where
residents can recreate in the winter months,” she explained.
The Edina Senior Center and Friends of the Edina Library will host a free event called “Making Memories
Together” from 9 to 10 a.m. Feb. 7. The Edina Children’s Librarian will read Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge
by Mem Fox. In the story, a small boy who lives next door to a nursing home, Wilfrid Gordon McDonald
Partridge, finds out that his special friend Nancy Alison Delacourt Cooper is losing her memory. He sets out
to find what a memory is. While listening to the story, you can create a memory mobile of all of your favorite
family memories and enjoy a treat. You can also tour the Senior Center that day from 10 to 11 a.m.
Senior Center Recreation Supervisor Donna Tilsner said, “We are excited to host this intergenerational
program with the library. It will be a great way to have a fun morning with a special grandchild or special
friend.”
Edinborough Park will also participate in the festivities on Feb. 7 with multiple activities. “Trot around the
Track” calls all kids ages 1 to 12 and parents to take a lap or two around the track. All children will receive a
prize. Parents can join in on the fun with the “Parents to the Peak” contest. Parents will make their way to
the top of the Peak and back while being timed. All participants will have a chance to win a 10-admission pass
in a drawing. Trot around the Track begins at 1 p.m. and the Parents to the Peak contest will take place 2-5
p.m. Bill the Juggler will perform in the Amphitheater at 2 p.m., sponsored by Edina Community Foundation.
Edinborough Park General Manager Patty McGrath said, “We are very excited to bring kids and parents
together for some active family fun. With the recent sub-zero temperatures, kids have energy to burn and
Edinborough Park is the perfect place to do it!”
Also on Feb. 7, Braemar Field will host Free Family Night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. You can check out the new
domed Braemar Field while burning off energy in the batting cages and walking the track. Soccer balls,
footballs and kick balls will also be available.
Braemar Golf Course will offer free snowshoeing 1-3 p.m. Feb. 8 for those 7 and older. You can try
snowshoeing and then warm up by a bonfire while enjoying s’mores provided by the Edina Lions.
Braemar Arena will host free open skating from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Centennial Lakes Park will give away out free glow necklaces and popcorn from 6 to 8 p.m. During that time,
skate rentals will be discounted by $1.
