FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
City to Hold Event to Educate the Public About Human Trafficking
in Minnesota
Edina, Minn., March 26, 2015 – The City of Edina Human Rights & Relations Commission (HRRC) will hold
an event on sex and labor trafficking in our own communities and throughout Minnesota. The event, Combating
Human Trafficking in Minnesota, will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 9 in the Edina City Hall Council
Chambers.
The event will begin with a presentation from the Breaking Free Regional Navigator Taylor Mitsch on the topic
of sex trafficking and community advocacy. A panel discussion will follow the presentation. The panel will be
moderated by Advocates for Human Rights Director of Advocacy Michele Garnett McKenzie and will feature
commentary from local organizations and activists combating human trafficking and related issues.
“[We are holding this event] so that community members can learn about human trafficking in Minnesota and to
raise awareness within the community to educate the citizens on what human trafficking is and what we can do
to combat it,” explained HRRC Chair Pat Arseneault. “Both sex and labor trafficking exist in our state [and we
want to give attendees a chance to] learn what that means and what they can do about it.”
There will be a short break with refreshments. The event is co-sponsored by Edina High School’s Against
Modern Day Slavery Club.
