FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Fires Banned Until Further Notice
Edina, Minn., April 3, 2015 – Recreational fires are banned in Edina until further notice by order of the
Edina Fire Chief.
Due to continued dry conditions, low humidity and lack of precipitation, the Edina Fire Department has
banned recreational fires since April 1. Given the already dry conditions, fires can spread rapidly and quickly
become out of control.
“The purpose of this ban is to reduce personal property damage resulting from wildfires,” said Fire Chief Tom
Schmitz. “These restrictions are extremely important from a safety standpoint and will be strictly enforced.”
Extreme caution should be taken when using anything that produces heat, such as cigarettes butts, vehicle
motors and outdoor grills. Even a tiny spark could turn into a large fire.
Before starting a recreational fire, residents should call the Recreational Fire Hotline at 952-826-0398 to
ensure that the fire danger index is low and no bans are in place.
For more information, contact the Edina Fire Department at 952-826-0330.
