Easily notify the City of it through its mobile app, Edina To Go. Spring time’s freeze-and-thaw cycles wreak havoc on pavement, often causing potholes of all sizes. Besides looking poorly and being difficult to drive on, potholes can harm the integrity and longevity of your car’s tires. Each year, the City uses more than 140 tons of asphalt to fix thousands of potholes. In the spring, crews go on a “pothole blitz,” patrolling Edina’s streets and repairing potholes as they are seen. Reporting potholes helps Edina’s crews prioritize where to focus efforts. “Using Edina To Go provides us much-needed information regarding the status of our streets,” said Public Works Director Brian Olson. “With more than 480 lane miles of streets, it is difficult to predict when a roadway prematurely fails. Using Edina To Go helps us to ensure that the problem areas are addressed in a timely manner and the residents can get responses quickly so that they know that we are taking care of their concerns.” Throughout the year, the Streets Division works hard to fill potholes quickly. During winter, crews use a non- permanent cold mix of asphalt, which serves as a temporary fix until crews can use a hot mix. Roads must be warm and dry for a hot mix to be used. Unlike cold mix, hot mix contains asphalt cement, which creates a permanent bond when dry. Submit a problem through the City’s mobile app, Edina To Go, available in the iPhone and Android app stores.
