Fire damages Edina home on Long Break Trail
Edina, Minn., May 11, 2015 – The Edina Fire-Rescue & Inspections Department was called to the 5800
block of Long Brake Trail at 8:16 a.m. Monday, May 11, after receiving reports of smoke coming from the
house.
Fire crews arrived to discover a working fire on the first floor of the house. Firefighters were able to mostly
contain the fire to the first floor, with minimal extension to the second floor. However, there was significant
damage to the entire home from the smoke, heat and water. The family was not home at the time of the fire.
Fire crews rescued one dog from the house, but another dog perished.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, but it appears to have started in the kitchen.
“We’re still determining the cause of the fire,” said Fire Marshal Jeff Siems. “However, faulty appliances can
start fires, so it’s important to periodically check your appliances for recalls of any kind.”
Homeowners are encouraged to check the serial numbers of their appliances at the Consumer Product Safety
Commission website, www.cpsc.gov/en/recalls, for any recalls that could potentially start a fire.
The Edina Fire Department received mutual aid from the Bloomington, Eden Prairie and Richfield fire
departments.
