Edina Introduces Bike Rack Cost Share Program
Edina, Minn., May 27, 2015 – In an effort to make bicycle parking more accessible throughout Edina and to
encourage bicycling for commuting, short trips and errands, the City is offering a program for businesses and
organizations in Edina to share the cost of purchase and installation of bike racks.
Each year, the City devotes $10,000 to the bike rack program and requests will be honored on a first-come,
first-served basis. The City of Edina will install the racks and will pay half the cost to purchase and install them.
The property owner is responsible to any new concrete and site work required for installation. The City’s
share is provided by the Pedestrian & Cyclist Safety (PACS) Fund, which is dedicated to the creation and
maintenance of non-motorized transportation facilities.
“As Edina’s streets become friendlier to those who are not in a motor vehicle, it has become even more
important to provide safe and convenient bicycle parking at locations throughout the city,” said the City’s
Transportation Planner, Mark Nolan. “This cost share program will make it easier for businesses and
organizations to benefit from increased accessibility for customers, employees and residents alike.”
Requests will be approved based on a set of criteria, such as location, placement and clearance. The City’s
Public Works crews will install the bike racks. Once in place, the property or building owner must maintain
them.
