FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
City receives high marks from residents in Quality of Life survey
Edina, Minn., Sept. 1, 2015 – Edina residents enjoy a high quality of life in 2015, as in previous years.
That’s the verdict from the latest quality of life survey of Edina residents by an independent research
company.
In the survey conducted this spring by the National Research Center (NRC), nearly all residents awarded
“excellent” or “good” ratings to the quality of life in Edina; no respondents felt that the quality of life was
“poor.” The ranking was tops among comparable Minnesota cities and 8th in the nation.
Other highlights of the survey include:
About 9 in 10 residents planned to remain in Edina for the next five years and would recommend
living in Edina to someone who asks.
Top community characteristics were defined as safety, education and enrichment, economic
health and health/wellness opportunities.
“Good schools,” “safe community” and “attractive community” were the top reasons
respondents listed for living in Edina.
Affordable housing and residential redevelopment were identified as the most serious issues facing
Edina. Two-thirds of respondents feel the City is doing well with managing tensions in the
community related to residential redevelopment.
Seventy-three percent of residents polled believe things in Edina are “generally headed in the right
direction.”
The overall quality of City services was rated “excellent” or “good” by 95 percent of
respondents.
Issues of possible concern identified in the survey include affordable housing, cost of living, and
off-road paths and trails for walking and bicycling.
According to NRC Senior Survey Associate Damema Mann, all of Edina’s responses were at or higher than
national benchmarks.
The City of Edina conducts a quality of life survey in odd-numbered years to monitor trends in resident
opinion; measure government performance; inform budget, land use and strategic planning decisions; and
benchmark service ratings.
