FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Edina Police places first in ‘Top Gun’ competition
Edina, Minn., Sept. 24, 2015 – Five members of the Edina SWAT team placed first at the four-day
Minnesota Tactical Officers Association Annual Training Conference Sept. 20-23 at Camp Ripley in Little Falls,
Minnesota.
Officers Darin Cizek, Adam L’Heureux, Dave Lindman, Derek Toll and Ryan Pankratz competed together in
the timed relay competition, demonstrating their skills shooting a rifle and handgun. They competed against 11
other teams from around the Twin Cities Metro.
“Most of the conference is scenario-based training, but there are two competitions: Iron Man and Top Gun,”
said Assistant Team Leader Cizek, who also noted that the competitions are meant to serve as team-building
exercises. “It’s good to see that in a stressful situation, our team can work well together. It also builds your
confidence knowing your fellow officers are highly skilled.”
The team took home a plaque for the award.
“They participated in many scenarios, competitions and firearm ranges while at the conference,” said Lt. Brian
Tholen of the 14-member SWAT team that includes 10 officers and four tactical paramedics. “Their
teamwork and overall performance throughout was remarkable.”
