FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Edina Promenade Phase IV Grand Opening
Scheduled for Sept. 23
Edina, Minn., Sept. 10, 2015 – The public is invited to celebrate the grand opening of the latest addition to
the Edina Promenade. The Promenade is located near Centennial Lakes Park, behind Lunds & Byerlys and
Target off of Hazelton Road. A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held 5 p.m. Wednesday,
Sept. 23.
Construction has been under way since the spring on new features along the Promenade, including a new
water feature in the central segment of the Promenade. It is the final piece of the Promenade Master Plan that
was originally developed in 2007.
“The water feature begins as a large pond located behind the new condo units at Lunds & Byerlys and runs
into a beautiful stream that flows down the promenade,” explained Centennial Lakes Park Assistant Manager
Laura Knollmaier. “There are small foot bridges over the stream and pathways along the water for patrons to
enjoy a leisurely stroll, as well as many benches for those who need to sit awhile and think. The stream flows
over different levels of rock base, creating small waterfalls and beautiful water noises for people to enjoy. The
water feature ends at a round decorative drain, where the water is then recirculated into the larger water
feature.”
The City of Edina’s Arts & Culture Commission will continue to facilitate the installation of public art along
the Promenade. The second-place winner of the 2014 Public Art People’s Choice Awards, 3 Dancing Sandhill
Cranes, is scheduled to be installed later this month along the Promenade and will be highlighted as part of
the grand-opening celebration. The sculpture will be a prominent feature near the large pond and will be
situated at the pond’s edge.
The City purchased this art piece in early July after it had been on display at 50th & France.
The event will include remarks from Mayor Jim Hovland, City Manager Scott Neal and Parks & Recreation
Director Ann Kattreh. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and live music will follow.
