Man Arrested Following Police Chase
Edina, Minn., Oct. 21, 2015 – The Edina Police Department, with help from the Bloomington Police
Department, apprehended a St. Paul man following a chase that caused several Bloomington schools to enter
into lockdown.
At 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, an Edina Police Officer attempted to pull over a Buick Century near West
70th Street and Metro Boulevard in Edina for a traffic violation and illegal window tint. The suspect did not
stop for the officer and led him on a pursuit into Bloomington.
The vehicle pursuit ended near Normadale Hills Elementary School in Bloomington, where the suspect
abandoned the car and fled on foot. The vehicle was discovered to have been stolen in Woodbury on
Tuesday, Oct. 20. No children were present outside the school at the time.
Normandale Hills Elementary, Ridgeview Elementary and Normandale Community College all entered lock-
down as a precaution.
Police set up a perimeter to search for the man, later identified as 38-year-old Darnell Hamilton, from St.
Paul. He was found at 12:58 p.m. hiding in a gazebo in the 9500 block of Oxborough Curve in Bloomington.
Edina K-9 Blitz helped apprehend Hamilton. Edina officers made the arrest. No weapon was recovered in the
search and it’s unknown if Hamilton was in possession of a weapon at any time during the incident.
Hamilton is being charged with two felonies: fleeing police and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
