Subcommittee Activity: Jan Johnson, Carolyn Peterson, and Sherry Engelman met with Sue Weigle, Senior Center Director, to determine her perspective of the needs of the Edina seniors. Transportation issues immediately were presented as her main concern. She felt that VEAP was one solution for this issue. The Senior Center has a rack of informational pamphlets on services and products available to seniors in our community. In December, 2012, I visited the Senior Center and noticed that VEAP's pamphlets were not included with the other materials in the rack. I met with VEAP and learned that it has a pamphlet on transportation options. It does need to be updated as a result of VEAP changing its physical location in Bloomington. VEAP felt that the updated pamphlet should be included with the rack materials. I mentioned to VEAP that the Margaret Cargill Foundation gives priorities to programs ,for seniors, children, and environmental preservation. I recommended that VEAP apply for a grant to update its brochure and facilitate its transportation program. VEAP's transportation program is mentioned in the Senior Newsletter. It is also mentioned in the Edina Resource Center pamphlet. Sherry Engelman and I have had several discussions as to how to make the VEAP transportation program, and other transportation options, more visible. A note could be regularly placed in the City's About Town magazine or the Edina Sun -Current. I am attempting to connect resources and services for the Edina seniors. Jan Johnson Committee Member
