Other Business: A. B. VI. Next Meeting Date: August 11, 1977, at 7:30 p.m. VII. Adjournment. MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE EDINA HERITAGE PRESERVATION BOARD HELD JULY 14, 1977, AT 7:30 P.M. EDINA CITY HALL CONFERENCE ROOM I. Members Present: Foster Dunwiddie, Chairman, Tom Martinson, Maryanne Herman, Paul Mucke, Gordon Stuart, and James McWethy. Staff Present: Gordon Hughes, Planning Director. Others Present: Richard Busch. II. Approval of the June 9, 1977, Heritage Preservation Board Minutes. Mrs. Herman moved for approval of the June 9, 1977, HPB minutes. Mr. Martinson seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried. III. Edina Mills. Following short discussion, the Heritage Preservation Board and Mr. Dick Busch, consulting archaeologist, conducted on-site investigation of the Edina Mills archaeological excavation. Mr. Busch explained the status of the exca- vation project as well as the location of future excavation. Mr. Dunwiddie ex- plained to the Board the orientation of the miles and aspects of its original condition. Following return to City Hall, Mr. Busch showed photographs of other mills located in southeastern Minnesota. He reported on a recent field trip to these mills. The Board also reviewed the locations of other mills in Minne- sota. III. George Baird House. 4400 West 50th Street. Mr. Dunwiddie reported on conversations held with Mr. Dick Wiltz, present, owner of the Baird House. Mr. Dunwiddie reported that Mr. Wiltz had no objec- tion to locating an historic marker at the site and was also not opposed to the site's nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. Mr. Dunwiddie reported, however, that Mr. Wiltz expressed some concern regarding future use of the house. No action taken. IV. Research Projects: A. Southdale. Mr. McWethy reported on conversations held with Dayton -Hudson Properties regarding preparation of a study of Southdale. Mr. McWethy noted that he was unable to receive authorization from Dayton -Hudson Properties for the project. The Board agreed that other individuals employed by Dayton -Hudson should be contacted to expedite commencement of the study. B. Mrs. R. S. Jackson. 4216 West 44th Street. Mr. Dunwiddie reported that Mrs. Jackson owns a rather substantial col- lection of early photographs of Edina. Following short discussion, Mr. Martin- son moved that Mrs. Herman contact Mrs. Jackson in the autumn to interview her regarding the collection. Mr. Stuart seconded the motion. All voted aye. Mr. Dunwiddie reported that he was allowed to recover certain books, documents, furniture, and photographs from the Morningside School prior to their sale or relocation in the school system. He reported that the school a- greed to donate these items to the Historical Society. VII. Next Meeting Date: August 11, 1977. VIII. Adjournment.
