CERTIFICATE OF RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Lucy Smoot a resident of Vernon Terrace in Edina will be honored by friends and
relatives on the occasion of her I00th birthday on December 7, 1914; and
WHEREAS, she was born in (Chicago, Illinois) and has been a resident of this community since
January of 2011, and had lived Excelsior Minnesota for 45 years
WHEREAS, she became the wife of Charles Smoot and this marriage was blessed with three
children and eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, in addition to being a wife and mother, she has been active in church and civic
responsibilities, including the League of Women Voter and as a volunteer at the Minneapolis
Art Institute; and
VVHEREAS, during a long and productive lifetime, he/she has demonstrated in countless ways
her dedication to the welfare of others and has earned the respect and affection of people from
all walks of life and all ages; especially during her tenure at Vernon Terrace and;
WHEREAS, she has lived during the most eventful century of this world's history; and in her
quiet way has been a force for good and a stabilizing influence on those around her during these
turbulent years;
NOW, THEREFORE, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Edina, I do
hereby deem it an honor and pleasure to extend this Certificate of Recognition to Lucy Smoot
on the occasion of her I00th Birthday, with sincere congratulations and best wishes for many
