MEETING SUMMARY
Executive Committee
City Hall — Mayor's Conference Room
May 11, 2011
8:15 - 9:45 AM
I. Record keeping
A. Steering Committee Meetings
B. Executive Committee Meetings
Notes of the Executive and Steering Committee meetings will be sent out to all Steering
Committee members for their records to keep all parties informed. Official meeting
minutes will consist of all motions taken by the Steering Committee.
II. Update on work groups
A. May 10th, Community Conversation/Kim Montgomery
B. Other Activity
The Community Conversation meeting consisted of 22 participants including 6
Executive/Steering Committee members. Participation also included e-mails from those
who could not attend. Participants were asked to define what they want for the area,
what kinds of amenities desired and what they don't want for the area. A summary
report of the meeting will be distributed to the Steering Committee.
III.
Steering Committee and Executive Committee Membership
p
A. 8th Member (Business/Property Owner) Member of Exec. Cmte.
B. Additional Business/Property Owner Members of Steering Cmte.
Discussion took place regarding engaging the business owners in the process. A number
of Executive Committee members have contacted business owner/operators to attend
the next meeting of the Steering Committee. No Business Association currently exists
which complicates communication and participation. It was suggested that the 8th
member (Business/Property Owner) of the Executive Committee be chosen by the
business community.
IV. Participation Policy
The Executive Committee advocates for openness in interest and involvement and
suggested that all Steering Committee members introduce themselves at the next
Steering Committee meeting on May 12, 2011, and share why they chose to be involved
in the process and what interests they may have in the plan.
V. May 12 Steering Committee Planning
1. How to determine
2. Resources needed to assist us
It was suggested that each committee give a quick report on any activity that they may
have had since the last meeting and share any ideas/thoughts. It was stated that there
has been a change in mind set in that it is important to first define the needs and wants
for the area and that the Grandview Area is a site in search of use. The Steering
Committee will break-out into small groups as part of the agenda on May 12 to try and
identify what the community needs are for the area, how they relate to the seven
guiding principles and how can they be accomplished in the plan. It is the hope of the
committee that the consultants can assist in sifting through those ideas so that they
may be incorporated.
