Subject: RE: January Meeting
Since it looks like we will not have a meeting in January I need to write all of you. Thank you
staff and Park Board members for all your great work and time you have given to this
community. We are fortunate to have a great staff that works with John. I have always found
each of you to be very committed to our community, and provide great leadership and
dedication to our Parks and Recreation needs. I look forward to having opportunities to work
with you on community projects in the future.
For all of you on the Board, thank you for serving and providing your time and leadership to the
community. Over the years I had the opportunity to work with many great people in this
community. Without your dedication and time commitment to this Board, our Community would
not have the great Park and Rec. system it does. Good luck to all of you as you work to make
our Parks meet the needs of our Community, and provide those Recreation opportunities for all
of the youth and adults in Edina.
It has been a pleasure to serve this Community as a Park and Recreation Board member.
Have a great Holiday Season. May God Bless you and your family. We will see you around
town.

Subject: January Meeting
Good Morning Park Board Members:
Park Board Chairman Todd Fronek and I are considering cancelling our January 13th Park Board meeting as we
really don't have any pressing Agenda items unless Park Board members have an agenda item or two they wish
to address at the January meeting. The only item that I have right now are some minor changes to the
Relationship Document (background check criteria) that was created by the Youth Sports Task Force. Those car
easily wait until February or March.
I will be out of the office until Monday, December 29, 2008. And I'm unfortunately headed home sick this morning
®- bummer. Anyway, let me know by December 29 if you have any agenda items for the January meeting. Todd
and I will discuss this on Monday the 29th and make a final decision.
12/23/2008
January Meeting Page 2 of 2
FYI, the Youth Athletic Association Presidents meeting on December 10 went well and was very well attended.
The City Council has approved our 2009 Fees and Charges as proposed by Park Board. The Council also passed
our proposed 2009 operating budget. The Council will formally vote on our Capital Improvement Plans in
January. We already had a 2 -hour CIP work session with the City Council and our facility managers last week.
They got to all enterprise facility CIP's except Edinborough Park (ran out of time) which will be addressed at their
next work session on January 6th.
Attached is a copy of the Nine Mile Creek Regional Trail task schedule. I've been busy meeting with Three Rivers
Park District staff and literally walking through the snow along the creek to pinpoint the alignment. That project is
successfully moving forward.
I'm also on the CP Rail with Trail action committee and have had a couple of meetings with those folks including
hiring a consulting firm (Bonestroo and Alta) to conduct the $50,000 feasibility study which is being paid by Three
Rivers Park District.
I now have a handful of volunteers willing to serve on the Pamela Park master plan input committee. I plan to
have our first meeting right after that Holidays when folks are available.
Also FYI, this year's Winter Neighborhood Night Out will be held 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, January 16, at
Arden, Creek Valley, Normandale, Pamela and Weber Park skating rinks/warming houses. This year, Hoigaards
will provide a snowshoe demonstration and have snowshoes to try out. This is the second annual Winter
Neighborhood Night Out to help further create a sense of neighborhood and community. There will be snacks,
hot chocolate, crafts and fun. Neighbors are encouraged to enhance this event by bringing games, refreshments
or planning activities. Caribou Coffee is providing decaf coffee and cider.
We are again hosting "Family Open Gym Fun" at the Edina Community Center City Gym on Friday, January 2
and February 20 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. for ages 2-5 and 7:15 p.m. -8:30 p.m. for ages 6-13. The fee is $3.00
per child (parents are FREE).
If the City Council finds replacements (in time to begin serving at the February meeting) for Park Board members
George Klus and Mike Damman, then January will be George & Mike's last Park Board meeting. All outgoing
members and new incoming members will be formally recognized by the City Council at the Annual Board and
Commission meeting in the spring. All Park Board members are encouraged to attend that meeting. You will be
receiving a formal written invitation at a later date.
Let me know if you have any agenda items for January. Thank you.
Wishing you and your families Happy Holidays and a terrific 2009!

Subject: Park Board Meeting Cancelled
Hello Park Board Members
Being that we did not receive any requests for January agenda items, the January Park Board meeting is hereby
cancelled.
According to City Code, if the City Council does not have a replacement in place for Board and Commission vacancies, the
current member is asked to continue to serve until a replacement has been secured.
Therefore, George & Mike may or may not be at our February meeting. I will keep everyone posted on the Council's
progress on their replacement process.
Again, I encourage everyone to attend the spring Board & Commission Member Special Event to recognize the wonderful
contributions and service that Mike and George have given the Park Board for all these years. I'll let you know when the
date & time is chosen.
Happy New Year to you and your families!
