COMMUNITY HEALTH ASSESSMENT – PART ONE
The whole meeting was dedicated to a mandated Community Health Assessment. The Minnesota Department of Health requires Advisory Boards of Health to complete this assessment process
once every five years. As part of their contract duties, Bloomington Public Health coordinated the assessment process for the cities of Bloomington, Richfield and Edina. Two meetings
are necessary to complete the assessment. Members of the respective Advisory Boards of Health shared thoughts and ideas and evaluated health issues throughout the evening.
General community data was presented regarding demographics, a recent on-line community health survey, the Minnesota Student Survey, maternal child health, and community readiness survey.
Common community health issues were explored in the following categories:
1) Healthy Communities and Healthy Behaviors, 2) Infectious Disease, 3) Access & Quality of Health Care, 4) Public Health Emergency Preparedness, 5) Public Health Infrastructure and
6) Environmental Health. These issues included ongoing and emerging health concerns.
During part two of the assessment process, each Advisory Board will prioritize health issues unique to their community. Once complete, Bloomington Public Health will summarize results
and report back to the Advisory Boards and also the Minnesota Department of Health.
Part two of the assessment will be held on May 20, 2008, in the Fireside Room of the Edina Senior Center.
