A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, emergency medical services is a vital public service; and
WHEREAS, the members of the emergency medical services teams of the Edina Fire and Police Departments
are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and
WHEREAS, access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival rate and recovery rate of
those who experience sudden illness or injury; and
WHEREAS, the emergency medical services has grown to fill a gap by providing important, out of hospital
care, including preventative medicine, follow-up care, and access to telemedicine, and
WHEREAS, the emergency medical services system of Edina consists of first responders, emergency medical
technicians, paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, educators, administrators,
emergency physicians, trained members of the public, and other out of hospital medical care providers; and
WHEREAS, emergency medical services responders of the Edina Fire and Police Departments engage in
thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills: and
WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Edina benefit daily from the knowledge and skills of these highly trained
individuals; and
WHEREAS, injury prevention and the appropriate use of the Emergency Medical Services System will help
reduce health care cost; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of the Edina Fire and Police
emergency medical services providers who serve to protect us by designating Emergency Medical Week; now
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the City of Edina City Council, do hereby proclaim the week of
May 21 —27, 2017 as
"Emergency Medical Services Week"

In the City of Edina in honor and recognition of the valuable contribut ns made by the Edina Emergency Medical
Service Providers to the health and well-being of our citizens.
