1. Welcome & Call to Order
2. Discussion and Approval of Agenda
Commissioner Risser made a motion to approve the meeting agenda
with the addition of the Energy Challenge presentation.
Commissioner Paterlini seconded. Motion carried.
3. Discussion and Approval of December 19, 2007, Meeting Minutes
The Commission discussed the Minutes and after discussion
Commissioner O’Connell made a motion to approve the Minutes of
December 19, 2007, with corrections. Commissioner Risser seconded.
Motion carried.
4. Public Comment
Eric Paul, an intern from Carleton College, is working to gather data on
energy consumption in the City of Edina buildings and their operations
to determine baseline carbon emissions.
5. Minnesota Energy Challenge Presentation
Paul Thompson introduced Neely Crane-Smith from the Minnesota
Energy Challenge. She gave a presentation and handed out
informational flyers.
6. Project Earth
Commissioner Iyer introduced the high school students representing
Project Earth. They gave an update of their progress from last year.

7. Committee Updates
Commissioner Latham gave an update of the Recycling and Solid Waste
Committee. Commissioner Latham made a motion that the
Commission recommend hiring a consultant for a maximum of
$9000.00 to review the Residential Recycling Collection Request for
Proposal (RFP), and then review the proposals for contract
consideration. Commissioner Risser seconded the motion. Motion
carried.
Commissioner Risser gave an update of the Education and Outreach
Committee activities.
The 4th of July Parade was discussed. Education Committee member
Paul Thompson talked about the City of Edina embracing the Minnesota
Energy Challenge. He will write a letter to the Sun Current.
Commissioner Paterlini gave an update of the Climate Change
Committee meeting.
8. Comprehensive Plan
The Commission discussed the Energy and Environment section of the
Comp Plan with updates. Commissioner Latham will complete the
draft.
9. Other Business
Chair Sierks distributed a list of committee members to the
commissioners and requested that they check for accuracy and
completeness.
Chair Sierks distributed a sample list of projects to the commissioners
with a request that it be completed and returned at the February 2008
meeting.
Commission members discussed changing the next three commission
meetings to the 4th Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in Edina City Hall’s
Community Room. Secretary Timm will post the changes.
10. Adjournment
Commissioner Owens made a motion to adjourn. Commissioner Iyer
seconded. Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m. The
next meeting will be the regularly scheduled meeting at 7:00 p.m.
