Members in attendance:Chair Surya Iyer,Dianne PlunkettLatham,Julie Risser,Ray O’Connor,Germana
Paterlini,Paul Thompson,Michael Platteter.
Chair Iyer called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.
Chair Iyer reminded commissioners of the upcoming meeting with the City Council on June 16.Scope of
this meeting will be to propose a roadmap for reducing Edina’s carbon footprint.Members of the E&E
Commission will also be at the June 10 public meeting of the Planning Commission to discuss
collaborative work between the two Commissions.
Julie Risser summarized the recent meeting with the Chair of the Planning Commission regarding State
laws for Building Codes and the opportunity of revising zoning ordinances in conjunction with the
implementation of the new Comprehensive Plan.Commissioner Platteter discussed the differences
between LEED certification and LEED compliance for new buildings.Commissioner Paterlini remarked
that LEED solutions do not minimize carbon emissions by default and that each case should be examined
carefully independently of the LEED label.
Commissioner Plunkett Latham reviewed the RSWG plans for the 20092010 year.Her
recommendations will be included in the packet to the City Council.Commissioners Platteter,
Thompson,Risser and Paterlini will send their proposals to Chair Iyer.Items under considerations are a
Green Procurement Policy for the City of Edina;reassessment of ordinances regarding size and
pavement of driveways,water rates,maintenance of the tree canopy;garbage collection/recycling;
educational programs on biking and trails,and local food production/consumption.Commissioners will
also consider meeting with other Commissions to explain the ICLEI milestone process and the CDP
report.
Commissioner Risser moved to adjourn the meeting,Commissioner Thompson seconded.The meeting
was adjourned at 9:00pm.
