Other OPENING OF THE ART STUDIO, SUNDAY OCTOBER 21, 3:30 - 5:30 EDINA YOUTH SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION Training session with Wally Kiffineyer and follow up session for questions etc. 1. Purpose: To organize and operate a Softball Program for the youth in the City of Edina. Goals: (1) For the youth of Edina to have fun. (2) To promote healthy physical activity. (3) To educate the youth in the skills, rules, and strategy of softball for grades 3 through 10, which will carry into adulthood sports. 4) To build character by encouraging good sportsmanship, teamwork, and self-confidence. (5) To offer team experience for the youth regardless of ability. 2. Programs: 1990 House League Grade Level Players Teams 3 & 4 81 6 5 & 6 92 7 7 - 10 67 5 Total 240 Traveling League 18 Age Level Players Teams Under 12 14 1 Under 14 18 1 Under 16 11 1 Under 18 12 1 Total 55 3. Coaches: All volunteers House League - 42 coaches, 6 being youth Traveling League - 11 coaches Aids in preparation - Coaches Clinic - Dave Woods Library of technique and rule books 4. Umpires: Youth Umpires 16 & 17 years of age House League - 12 Training session with Wally Kiffineyer and follow up session for questions etc. 5. EYSA implemented two major changes in 1990 and that was to go to an optional flat pitch, and a split day/evening game schedule Reasons: 1) To eliminate the large number of walks for pitch change 2) To make the ball easier to hit. 3) To speed up the game and make it more interesting Had received complaints about inconvenience of all day games for working parents. Split the schedule - very positive feedback from parent questionnaire.
