SUMMARY
The Edina Hockey Program was organized in 1951. In 1948-49
there was not a single hockey rink or organized team in
Edina. The first high school team was organized in 1950,
and with the help of the players, a rink was built at the
high school.
In 1951, a Pee Wee team was started which was the beginning
of the "Village" program. The effect of this program was
felt three years later when many of these same boys became a
major asset to Edina's first Lake Conference championship.
The Edina program is divided into A, B, and C levels. The A
& B level teams play in District 6, while the C level teams
play in the Southwest Suburban League. Mites participate in
the Edina City League. A & B teams represent Edina in
Regional competition and since 1968 have honored the Edina
program with 18 State Championships and three National
Championships. The high school has won six State
Championships in that period and has been runner-up twice
and consolation champ three times in 19 appearances.
From a community of no youth hockey teams or even rinks in
1949, the Edina program now offers hockey to over 600 boys
and girls the ages of 6 to 18 years. There are two indoor
rinks at Braemar and several outdoor rinks. Our 1990-91
operating budget is $142,738.00
