Fire damages Edina home on Wooddale Avenue
Edina, Minn., Jan. 20, 2016 – The Edina Fire Department was called to the 6000 block of Wooddale
Avenue at 9:43 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, after the homeowners reported a discoloration in their kitchen ceiling
that was hot to the touch.
Fire crews arrived to no apparent flames or smoke. However, a thermal imaging scan showed significant heat
at the spot of the discoloration. Upon opening up the kitchen ceiling, firefighters found an active fire in the
attic space. The fire was contained to the attic and ceiling joists above the kitchen. There were no injuries.
The fire was started by an electrical conduit supply for a kitchen light fixture. The Edina Fire Department
received mutual aid from the Bloomington, Hopkins, Richfield and St. Louis Park fire departments.
“When we arrived, the nearest hydrant had already been shoveled out, which saved us precious time,” said
Fire Marshal Jeff Siems. “It’s important that residents make sure the hydrant on their property, or closest to,
is always accessible, especially in the winter with the snow. Every second matters during a fire.
Visit EdinaMN.gov/Fire to sign up to adopt a hydrant and receive email reminders after a large snowfall to
clear a hydrant on or near your property.
