Public Art Edina Working Group Seeks New Members
Edina, Minn., March 17, 2016 – The City of Edina Arts & Culture Commission’s Public Art Edina Working
Group is seeking applications to fill open seats.
Public Art Edina is comprised of residents who advise the Arts & Culture Commission in regard to all matters
pertaining to public arts within the community. The group’s goals include building awareness and pride in
community heritage, serving as a vehicle for public education in the visual arts, making recommendations for
creative fundraising for public art displays, and promoting economic development through the arts.
“Members of Public Art Edina have a vital ‘hands on’ say in the public art we choose in our annual rotating
exhibit,” said Public Art Edina Chair Barbara La Valleur. “In addition, the City looks to us to influence a variety
of public art-related areas. It's one of the most fun and creative ways to volunteer for this great community.”
Applications are open to residents and are being accepted until March 30. Apply online at EdinaMN.gov/public-
art-working-group.
“Public Art Edina Working Group has been instrumental in beautifying the City. They have helped to secure
several permanent art installments around the city, including ‘Spaulding’ at 50th & France and two different
utility box art wraps at 66th Street and Valley View Road and 50th Street and Wooddale Avenue," said Edina
Art Center General Manager Michael Frey.
Members of a working group serve as volunteers and are not a part of the Commission’s active members.
Public Art Edina is comprised of 10 members and meets monthly at 4 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month,
beginning in May.
