Structure Fire Extinguished by Neighbor
Edina, Minn., April 4, 2016 – The Edina Fire Department was called to the 6100 block of Abbott Avenue
South at 3:55 p.m. Saturday April 2, after a neighbor noticed smoke coming from the home next door in what
appeared to be near a small basement window.
After calling 9-1-1 to report the fire, the neighbor began to extinguish the fire with a garden hose. When
emergency crews arrived on-scene, most of the fire had been extinguished.
The fire primarily caused damage to the exterior wood shakes siding, storm windows and soffits. No interior
fire or smoke damage was found.
“In any fire, early notification is critical,” said Fire Inspector Brian Hanrahan. “Since the homeowner was not
home at the time of the fire, it made a real difference.”
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
