The theme for the 2016 Preservation Month is “Celebrate the past as we plan for the future.” This important event celebrates the role of history in our lives and the contributions made by dedicated individuals in helping to preserve the tangible aspects of the heritage that has shaped us as a people. The proclamation asserts the significance of preservation to manage growth and sustain development, revitalize neighborhoods, foster local pride and maintain community character while enhancing livability. “Throughout the year, but especially in May, the Heritage Preservation Board celebrates local efforts that embrace pride in the community,” said Senior Planner Joyce Repya. “This year, a highlight was adding the historic Wooddale Bridge to the list of Edina Heritage Landmark properties.” Also, in recognition of Preservation month, the City’s Heritage Preservation Board encourages residents to attend Edina Historical Society’s “City of Hockey: Six Decades of Community Tradition” exhibit where they can celebrate the impact that hockey has had on the community. The exhibit is free and open to the public during regular museum hours: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
