FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Nature Walking Trail in Braemar Park Closed for Summer
Edina, Minn., July 28, 2016 – The nature walking trail in Braemar Park will be closed for the remainder of
the summer until construction on the expanded Public Works Department Cold Storage site is concluded.
Construction began at the Cold Storage site in Braemar Park in mid-July and is expected to conclude in mid-
September. The site will be expanding by 0.9 acres. The trail will be rerouted around the new expansion and
is expected to open in September, though the City hopes to have it completed sooner in the construction
process.
The site is being expanded in order to absorb another Public Works operational site that is being removed to
make way for the Three Rivers Park District 15-mile Nine Mile Creek Regional Trail that will span the cities
of Hopkins, Minnetonka, Edina, Richfield and Bloomington.
“We’re looking at this new project on the Nine Mile Creek Trail globally. We knew that there would be
impacts to the trail, in addition to the City in terms of its operations,” said Public Works Director Brian
Olson. “Our goals are to see that the development of the new trail, rerouting of the existing trail in Braemar
Park and the expansion of our Cold Storage site are effective and successful.”
As part of the construction at Braemar Park, several trees were also removed. The City is looking into ways
to re-install vegetation along the trail to restore some of those trees as well as create a buffer between the
trail and the Cold Storage site.
