Post 925 Wins Awards at National Explorer Conference
Edina, Minn., July 28, 2016 – Edina/Eden Prairie Police Explorers Post 925 participated in the National
Police Explorer Conference in Flagstaff, Arizona, July 10-16. They did our communities proud as they came
home with multiple accolades.
“We had 12 Explorers attend the National Explorer Conference. As a post, we competed in seven team
events and numerous individual events,” explained one of Post 925’s advisors, Patrol Officer Mike Sussman.
With over 3,000 other Explorers from around the country competing, it is a special honor for Post 925 to
place in multiple competitions. One of its teams earned a fifth-place award for Accident Investigation and
Explorer Alex Geiger received first place in the female 17+ physical fitness test. She also placed third in the
Police Exam and set a new Nationals record for sit-ups, when she completed 355 during the physical fitness
test. The previous records were 200 and 300 sit-ups for female and male divisions, respectively.
“Our Explorers represented themselves and the Edina and Eden Prairie Police Departments in a highly
professional manner while at the conference and we, as advisors, are all proud of them,” Sussman said.
Overall, Minnesota Explorer posts performed very well and took home approximately 15 awards from the
conference.
The Edina/Eden Prairie Explorer program offers young adults, ages 14 through 20, the opportunity to learn
more about careers in law enforcement. Through their participation, Explorers learn firsthand about the
profession from lectures, practical scenarios, ride-alongs and volunteering with Police Departments. Post 925
currently has 25 participants.
