Installation Begins for 50 Bike Racks Throughout the City
Edina, Minn., Sept. 1, 2016 – Through a nearly $6,000 grant offered by Bloomington Public Health, the
City of Edina was recently able to secure 50 new bike racks for installation throughout the City’s parks.
“Obtaining these racks is another step in helping make Edina a more bike-accessible city,” said Recreation
Supervisor Eric Boettcher. “It’s important to have them available in parks -- especially neighborhood parks --
so we can allow people to bike to those parks and lock them up properly.”
The standard hoop racks accommodate two to four bikes per rack and will be installed in parks over the next
several years. Some racks have already been installed in Pamela Park and additional installations will occur in
parks as upgrades to those parks are needed.
“The Pamela Park shelter area already has two new racks installed and we’re currently excavating an area to
pour concrete in order to install four racks by the artificial turf field. We also just finished pouring the
concrete at Weber Park and will be installing four racks there,” said Park Maintenance Supervisor Bob
Prestrud. “At this time, we also have plans to install four racks near Braemar Field.”
“The addition of these racks will mean more bike parking options throughout Edina parks since, in most cases,
these racks are additions to the parks rather than replacement of existing racks,” explained Boettcher.
“Additionally, the City chose the hoop racks that already are used in City parks because they are the most
economical, are consistent with other racks already in place and are easy to use.”
