Edina Police to Hold Internet Safety Seminar
Edina, Minn., Sept. 23, 2016 – The Edina Police Department, Edina Public Schools and Minnesota Bureau of
Criminal Apprehension will host an Internet and Social Media Safety seminar for parents and students 7-8:30
p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the Edina High School Performing Arts Center.
The seminar will feature discussion about long-term and emerging online issues, and advice about how to
avoid becoming a victim. Issues discussed will include cyber bullying, “sexting,” techniques used by online
predators, disclosure of too much personal information, and Edina Public Schools’ policies regarding social
media use. Speakers will include Edina Detective Dave Lindman, School Resource Officer David Boosalis and
representatives of Edina Public Schools and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
Presenters will emphasize the importance of making informed decisions, limiting risks and managing
consequences. A question-and-answer session will take place immediately following the seminar.
