FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
‘Speak Up, Edina!’ New Discussion on Southdale Library
Site Redevelopment
Edina, Minn., Nov. 22, 2016 – The City’s next monthly online discussion is now available at
SpeakUpEdina.org. The discussion, which focuses on the Southdale Library site redevelopment, is available
until Jan. 5.
In the next three to five years, the Southdale Library will be rebuilt on the 8-acre site, but there is room for
more, such as housing, offices or retail.
In the discussion, the City asks residents about the building types/uses they think would be complimentary to
the new library and appropriate for this site; changes they would make to enhance neighborhood connections
and make the site friendlier to patrons that drive, bicycle or walk; and what would make them attracted to
and use the new library and site amenities. Feedback from this discussion will be compiled and presented to
the City Council Jan. 18.
Public input from Speak Up, Edina! and community meetings in December will also be used to shape a request
for proposals that will eventually be issued to the real estate development community. Economic
Development Manager Bill Neuendorf said that formal proposals will most likely be collected in the spring and
forwarded to the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners to make a final selection in summer 2017.
Last month, the City gathered feedback on what type of outdoor recreational facilities are needed in the Edina
park system that could fit at Fred Richards. Feedback from this discussion will be compiled and presented to
the City Council Dec. 20.
To share your ideas, visit SpeakUpEdina.org and participate in the discussion.
