FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Edina Firefighter Named Administrator of State Rescue Team
Edina, Minn., Oct. 25, 2016 – Edina Paramedic/Firefighter Pete Fisher has been chosen as the new
Administrator for Minnesota Task Force 1, the state’s emergency rescue team.
Fisher will handle the day-to-day operations, training and record-keeping for Minnesota Task Force 1, which is
made up of about 220 firefighters, police officers and medical personnel from five areas: Edina, Minneapolis,
Rochester, St. Paul and Dakota County.
The task force is specially trained and equipped to handle trench rescues, confined space rescues or search
and rescue when a structure collapses. Members also perform highly technical rope rescues.
Fisher will be the first full-time Administrator for the task force. Previously, the administrative duties had been
handled by various team members, but that proved onerous as those members also staffed shifts in their own
departments. State funding was obtained to help pay for the position.
Fisher, who has been with Edina Fire-Rescue & Building Inspections for 15 years, was selected over applicants
from St. Paul and Rochester.
“I am excited to get started,” said Fisher, who officially begins the assignment in January 2017, but is already
preparing. “I’m learning this as fast as I can.”
Fire Chief Tom Schmitz said Fisher is an ideal choice and has been an integral part of the task force.
Fisher will remain working in Edina, but won’t be on a regular firefighting shift while serving as Administrator.
The City of Edina will hire a Paramedic/Firefighter to replace Fisher’s shift position.
