Residents Warned of U.S. Marshals Hoax
Edina, Minn., Dec. 27, 2016 – This morning, Tuesday, Dec. 27, three residents reported being contacted
by a Deputy U.S. Marshal. In the hoax, each was told they need to turn themselves into the U.S. Marshal’s
Office immediately.
“After confirming the resident’s address, the caller tells the resident to leave their home immediately, but to
stay on the phone to confirm to the caller that they have left,” said Sgt. Brandon Kuske. “This is not how the
U.S. Marshals, or any law enforcement agency, would go about contacting anyone.”
Kuske said this is most likely a scam to get residents out of their homes, so that the callers can then
burglarize them.
If you are contacted by anyone pretending to be from the U.S. Marshal’s Office or asking you to leave your
home, hang up and call 9-1-1 immediately.
For questions, contact the Edina Police Department at 952-826-1610.
