Edina Police Department Swears In Officer
Edina, Minn., Dec. 21, 2016 – Officer Jeff Martin was sworn into the Edina Police Department Wednesday,
Dec. 21, surrounded by friends and family.
“During our hiring process, we take a good look at our candidates from the first panel interview to the final
interview, looking for people who are going to be a fit in our department and our family,” said Police Chief
Dave Nelson. “When Jeff finished his final interview with me, I was very comfortable saying I think this guy is a
good fit and we need to hire him.”
Martin grew up in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and is a graduate of St. Louis Park Senior High School. He
received his bachelor’s degree in law enforcement from Minnesota State University, Mankato and completed
the skills program through Mankato and Hibbing. In 2014, he was hired as a police officer in Mounds View,
where he worked for three years. Martin is the seventh person in his family to serve as a police officer.
“Edina is a destination department. There are three things that make us this: opportunity, culture and support.
I think we are very fortunate that Jeff has chosen to make Edina his destination department,” said Nelson.
Martin was pinned in with badge No. 157 by his father, Jerry. His family, including wife and daughter, were
also in attendance.
“Big thank you to my family for your continued support for this career choice. It’s not always easy making
your schedules around mine for holidays,” Martin said. “Thank you to the City of Edina and Chief Nelson for
this opportunity. I’m blessed for the opportunity. Thank you.”
