HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-11-18 Town Hall Meeting Minutes MINUTES OF THE TOWN HALL MEETING OF THE EDINA CITY COUNCIL HELD AT EDINA SENIOR CENTER NOVEMBER 18, 2017 10:00 A.M. UNTIL 12:00 NOON CALL TO ORDER Mayor Pro Tem Brindle called the meeting to order at 10:05 a.m. Mayor Hovland entered the meeting at 10:07 a.m. ROLLCALL Answering roll call were Members Brindle, Fischer, Staunton, Stewart, and Mayor Hovland. The Mayor explained the purpose of the town hall meeting was to allow a free flow of questions between the attendees and Council. Approximately 30 residents attended the meeting and asked a variety of questions that included the following: • Seal coating still shedding gravel month after project complete on Edinmoor; • Communications process with neighborhood, need for a process for neighbors to discover proposed developments, applicants have more time than neighbors, • Status of former Public Works site; • Rental licensing, such as AirBNB, and • Concern with polling places located in schools • Concern that Council receives full range of resident input, who selects experts used by the city • Traffic and speeders east 66th Street and Normandale Road • How can a builder be working or have a project finished with an unpaid permit, each contractor should have a report card • Developers costs should be a sliding fee based on city costs • Estelle Edina project, dissatisfied with communication and questioned why staff makes a recommendation • Council invited to a Leadership meeting at 66 West • Does Council have any plans to set a minimum wage ordinance • Affordable housing for seniors is needed • Consider staffing assistance at Historical Society,and consider relocation of Grange Hall and Cahill school • Was road reconstruction special assessments constitutional The Mayor and Council thanked residents for coming and engaging in a questions and answer session.
