Fire Damages Edina Home on Wyman Avenue
Edina, Minn., July 14, 2017 – The Edina Fire-Rescue & Inspections Department was called to the 6200
block of Wyman Avenue at 8:45 a.m. Friday, June 30.
Fire crews arrived to discover a fish tank on fire in the first-floor family room of the single-family home. Fire
crews were able to extinguish the fire shortly after arrival. However, the home sustained soot and smoke
damage. There were no injuries to the humans or animals.
“The family says the fish are still alive and doing well,” said Fire Marshal Rick Hammerschmidt.
The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical shortage in the fish tank light. The family woke and
was alerted to the fire by the home’s smoke alarms.
“Check all smoke alarms each month to ensure they work,” said Hammerschmidt, who also mentioned that
smoke alarms should be installed in each bedroom, outside each sleeping area and on every level of the home,
including the basement.
Fire crews received assistance from the Richfield and St. Louis Park fire departments.
